Dublin Sound Lab is pleased to announce that the IMRO/Music Current Commission 2018 has been offered to the Argentinian composer Patricia Martinez. Patricia will collaborate with Dublin Sound Lab throughout 2018 to develop a new work for chamber ensemble and electronics, which will be premiered in Dublin at the MUSIC CURRENT Festival 2019.

The commission is offered annually as part of MUSIC CURRENT with the newly commissioned work being prepared for the following year’s festival. Last year, Italian composer Silvia Rosani was awarded the 2017 commission and her new work Frauenstimmen, for piano and electronics, was premiered at Smock Alley Theatre, 14 April 2018, by Xenia Pestova (piano).

Patricia says, "I am deeply grateful and honoured to receive the Music Current Commission. It is an absolutely fantastic possibility to build a bridge with Dublin Sound Lab and I hope this project will act as a step towards future developments and exchanges. I believe that artistic creation needs this kind of support and recognition in order to stimulate professional continuity. And I feel a deep empathy with colleagues who are devoted to growing music culture of their own country. This type of ongoing and permanent effort deserves all respect."

The new work will receive its premiere at Music Current Festival, April 2019. Learn more about Patricia's work and music at: https://patriciamartinez.com.ar
